New York Approves Critical Infrastructure for Micron’s $100B Chip Factory
New York's Public Service Commission has greenlit a 345-kilovolt underground transmission line to power Micron Technology's planned $100 billion semiconductor megafab in Onondaga County. Governor Kathy Hochul called the project transformative, noting it represents the largest private investment in state history.
The two-mile power line will connect an existing substation to Micron's facility, with construction plans and environmental approvals already secured. The megafab is expected to create over 50,000 jobs across two decades, including 9,000 direct positions at Micron.
Central New York stands to gain significant economic benefits from this infrastructure development. The state has emphasized its commitment to expediting the project, which will position New York as a key player in domestic semiconductor production.
